SAN ANTONIO -- In the first NBA Finals game of his reign as the leagues commissioner, Adam Silver had to deal with a sweltering arena. Compared to what hes gone through in recent weeks, that seemed like a breeze. Speaking to The Associated Press on Friday at an NBA Cares event, Silver said hes thrilled that the leagues attention can be on the championship series between the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs -- and not, as it was for so much of the post-season, on the off-the-court matters involving the banishment of Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling and now the looming sale of that franchise. "No question," Silver said. "In fairness to all the players and the teams, they worked so hard to get to this moment and a hot building is part of the competition in essence. And all those other things that weve been talking about the last several weeks are not." Posing for photos with Spurs players, coach Gregg Popovich, general manger R.C. Buford and others, Silver was all smiles when the ceremonial red ribbon was cut at the leagues latest "Learn & Play Center" at a San Antonio elementary school. Its the 897th time that the league has been involved with opening a facility like that, and another similar event will be held in Miami when the series shifts there next week. Silver made no prediction, other than saying he thinks the Heat-Spurs matchup could be a long series. He also said he was satisfied that the air conditioning issues that overshadowed Game 1 have been cleared up and will not affect play when the series resumes in San Antonio on Sunday night. "We learn something new all the time," Silver said. "The league checklist continues to get longer, the things that we need to ensure are functioning properly before games." The Sterling matter was Silvers first true test since taking over for David Stern as commissioner, and many players raved about his response, both in terms of message and swiftness. Silver barred Sterling for life after the longtime owner acknowledged making racist comments on tape, plus fined him $2.5 million. Now, the Sterling matter looks to be essentially over. The Clippers are poised to be sold to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer for $2 billion, and Sterlings attorney said earlier this week that issues between Sterling and the NBA will be resolved without need for a lawsuit -- a decision that basically clears the biggest hurdle that would have precluded a sale. "Im pleased and proud that the attention is on the greatest basketball in the world," Silver said. Nike Air Max 90 Essential Billig Kaufen ... maybe even more than that. Gordon Hayward contributed 18 points to the win, Utahs fifth in its last seven away outings. Trevor Booker chipped in 15 points and eight rebounds off the bench, with Rudy Gobert recording a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds for the Jazz. As much as anything, weve had a better focus (of late), said Jazz head coach Quin Snyder. Sometimes weve had it for a quarter and not for the next quarter. We were focused more than not tonight. Chicago entered the matchup 10-1 in its previous 11 games, but shot a poor 33.3 percent to seal its fate. Derrick Rose particularly struggled, going 3- of-15 from the field while managing only seven points. I dont wont to overreact, but I dont want to under-react either, Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau said afterward. You always ask yourselves before you start, theres two questions: did you play hard enough and did you execute properly? The readiness to play, that part is really my responsibility. I didnt like that part of it at all. Jimmy Butler led the Bulls with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Taj Gibson tallied 15 points in the loss. The teams were deadlocked at 32-32 entering the final minute of an offensively challenged opening half in which neither shot better than 36 percent. Utah then caught fire in the third quarter, hitting five of its first seven shots and stringing together a 13-3 run that put Chicago at a 49-37 deficit. The Bulls scored the next nine points, highlighted by back-to-back Rose layups, to get within three, but made just two more field goals over the remainder of the quarter as the Jazz began to pull away. Favors netted six points in the last 1:38 of the third to stake Utah to a 63-51 lead entering the final frame, and the Jazz kept rolling from there. Utah opened the fourth on a 16-3 tear, with Booker and Burke accounting for five points each, to claim a commanding 79-54 lead with 8:17 remaining. We played really, really well tonight, I think everybody did, Hayward said. Rudy was a monster for us defensively. The Jazz were ahead by as many as eight points in the first half, owning a 24-16 edge just over a minute into the second quarter as Chicago struggled to both hit shots and hold onto the ball. The Jazz then went scoreless for more than five minutes, enabling the Bulls to move in front with a 9-0 surge.
