EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- While Odell Beckham Jr. probably must wait at least another week to play in a game with Victor Cruz, the thought of being on the same field with him and rookie Sterling Shepard is exciting. If all three can play, the Giants passing game has the potential to be very special. There is no doubt Beckham will continue to draw the double coverages, but that should help Cruz and Shepard, and make things a little easier for Eli Manning.Cruz, who missed all of last season with a calf injury, did not work Wednesday as the Giants held their final practice before Fridays preseason opener against the Miami Dolphins at MetLife Stadium.Coach Ben McAdoo was not available to update Cruzs status after practice, and offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan would not comment on his status.Beckham is ready, though, and so is Shepard, the second-round draft pick listed as a starter on the depth chart for the game. You put two people on me and you have one on one with them and I would take them one on one pretty much against anyone out there, so its going to be a lot of fun, Beckham said after practice.Beckham has had almost nothing but fun since joining the Giants two years ago. Despite missing the first four games in his rookie season with a hamstring injury, the flamboyant wide receiver has 187 catches for 2,755 yards and 25 touchdowns, including that memorable one-hander against Dallas as a rookie. This year has even more promise. The defense has been shored up via free agency, and the offense seemingly has some people who can complement Beckham. The six games the Giants lost in the final quarter and overtime in 2015 might now be winnable.I do feel as if this team is working harder, I feel as if we have a better chance at definitely being better than 6-10, and thats obviously the goal, Beckham said. One game at a time. You want to be playing on February 5 in Houston. After resting in the offseason, Beckham hopes to be more patient this year. He wants to run his routes better and be there for the new guys when they need help.Year in and year out, there is going to be something that I find to improve on and get better on, Beckham said. No matter what I do the year before, its always going to be what can I do to be better than last year?Sullivan called Beckham a special talent.I think when you are at practice, you guys witness, but mostly the fans or people who dont have the chance to come and see, how hard the guy works, Sullivan told reporters. He really loves practice, he loves to compete, and he loves to play and work, and we continue to try to push him in terms of expanding his versatility.Neither Beckham nor Sullivan is worried about Cruzs latest injury. He was limited to six games in 2014 by a knee injury and lost all of last year with the calf problem.I keep reminding him that his first game is Sept. 11, even though you have to get your feet wet in the preseason, Beckham said of Cruz. Again, I hate saying that, but its irrelevant. You could go for 200 yards and none of it is going to matter. You could go for zero yards and none of it is going to matter. All that matters is that youre prepared for Week 1.Beckham is ready now.Game notes PK Josh Brown kicked roughly a 63-yard field goal in the rain in practice. ... McAdoo did something different than former coach Tom Coughlin in practice Wednesday. He kept the team on the field when it started raining. Los Angeles quarterback Jared Goff makes his highly anticipated debut when the Rams host the Miami Dolphins on Sunday at the Los Angeles Coliseum. The Rams fan base has not-so-patiently awaited this moment, but the time has come for the No. 1 pick in this springs NFL draft out of the University of California.I felt like this was the best time to go ahead and turn the keys over to Jared, Los Angeles coach Jeff Fisher said. Were excited for him. He had a good day (at practice). Hes into the plan, hes really excited. The position is not easy to play, as weve seen around the league. A lot of good quarterbacks took their lumps last weekend, but we got confidence in him, as the offense does. Well get him prepared to play.Goff replaces Case Keenum, who has not played well for most of the season as the offense scored 10 points or fewer in five games. The Rams (4-5) were held without an offensive touchdown for the third time this season in a 9-6 victory over the Jets in New York last week.Los Angeles ranks last in scoring at 15.4 points per game and the Keenum-led offense is 31st in total offense with an average of 308 yards.Goff makes his debut at home before the Rams play at New Orleans and at New England in Weeks 12 and 13.The Dolphins (5-4) made Southern California their home this week instead of flying back and forth across the country after defeating the San Diego Chargers 31-24. Miami practiced in north San Diego County. The Rams halted a four-game losing streak by defeating the Jets while the Dolphins are winners of four straight.Miamis offense is finally hitting on all cylinders under first-year head coach Adam Gase but faces a tough challenge from the Los Angeles defense. The Gregg Williams-led unit ranks seventh in the NFL in total yards allowed at 327 per coontest and 10th in points allowed at 19.dddddddddddd2.Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill has played some of the best football of his career during the winning streak and has thrown 109 consecutive passes without an interception. The former Texas A&M star also has four touchdowns, zero interceptions and a 103.6 passer rating during the run. Tannehills success has his coach raving about him.Said Gase: The guy (Tannehill) is a beast. He just stands back there. There was one of them he threw, I thought he was pressured a little bit, and he got rid of the ball and he comes in and he says, I have to stay in there. He just has some kind of toughness where he just is going to stand in there. He takes a shot. He takes care of his body and hes able to bounce back up.At the start of the 2016 season, no one except perhaps Dolphins running back Jay Ajayis family members believed hed be ranked sixth in the NFL in rushing and outgaining Rams running back Todd Gurley by 210 yards.Ajayi averages 5.7 yards per carrry, good for 725 yards this season. Gurleys average is 3.1 yards. The going could be tough for Ajayi this week with left tackle (wrist) out and center Mike Puncey (hip) doubtful. Gurler has been bothered by a thigh injury. While Ajayi has been a godsend to a Dolphins offense that lost Arian Foster to injury, then retirement, Gurley and the Rams rushing attack has been a disappointment to the team and Rams fans alike. There may be hope for Gurley this week, though. The Dolphins are 30th in the NFL in rushing yards allowed at 128.8 per contest and with a rookie quarterback getting his first NFL start, the Rams hope Gurley can take advantage. ' ' '
