This is a trip that could go a long way to define the season for the Carolina Panthers. The Oakland Raiders are hoping theyre recovered enough from their latest voyage to be able to continue their winning ways. The teams meet Sunday at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. Were talking about recovering from the trip, Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio said. Its all about whats next for us and right now its the Carolina Panthers. ... Busy turning the page to the Carolina Panthers. The Raiders, who are the leaders in the AFC West, are coming off Monday nights victory against the Houston Texans in Mexico City. The Panthers have packed up for the long haul. Theyre staying on the West Coast after this game to take on the Seattle Seahawks the following week.It shapes up as a crucial time for the reigning NFC champions. Were going there for two reasons and two reasons only, Carolina head coach Ron Rivera said, offering a twist on the one-game-at-a-time mantra. Theyre both important. Each game has (its) own individual meaning.Rivera, though, said the focus is clearly on the Raiders as the Panthers (4-6) embark on this trip. Theyll practice at San Jose State in between the games. The Panthers are somewhat wounded, particularly with linebacker Luke Kuechly ruled out after entering the concussion protocol from the Nov. 17 game against New Orleans.Carolina was fortunate to have extra time to prepare because of that Thursday night game. The injury report grew considerably, especially with defensive end Mario Addison and center Ryan Kalil exiting and also ruled out.Hopefully they can come back and we can make a push, Panthers fullback Mike Tolbert said. The Panthers, whove won three of their past four games, are in a wait-and-see situation regarding the linebacking because Kuechlys normal backup is A.J. Klein, who missed the most recent game because of a concussion. The Raiders (8-2) appear in much better position, if nothing else theyre in a more enviable spot in the standings. But winning the division remains a priority and theres lots of work to be done regarding that mission. It still begins with winning the division, Del Rio said. Its the surest way to get a spot in that playoff tournament. With accolades and attention starting to fall on the Raiders, theyre intent on maintaining the right approach. You set goals and you want to reach certain things, quarterback Derek Carr said. Everybody expects great things and when good things come our way you have to know how to be humble.Anytime you have 10 games and you have eight wins, were thankful for that. If we dont win another one, its not going to mean anything. Our focus right now is on beating Carolina.Del Rio, who was the defensive coordinator for the Panthers in 2002, said the Raiders have developed good tendencies during their four-game winning streak. He said there are challenges the team must encounter in the aftermath of the out-of-country trip and dealing with a shortened week of preparation. The seasons foundation is something hes counting on.As you have success and build on that and have a reference point to go back on, Del Rio said. I think our guys have embraced the idea of competing for the full 60 minutes. Weve found ways to win, but it has been different ways each week. While Carr has become a focal point for Oaklands offense, the team has thrived on balance and versatility. Thats something the Raiders figure can work to their advantage. To know that we can win a football game either way, Carr said. We can run the football or throw the football. Either way, Im all for it as long as we keep on winning. The Panthers have been shoddy in converting scoring chances into touchdowns and quarterback Cam Newtons inconsistency has created concerns. Turnovers and red-zone shortcomings have been glaring at times. We will make plays and hopefully we will make enough to win football games, Rivera said.Rivera has put a positive spin on the trips potential even though it means facing a pair of divisional leaders in consecutive weeks. From an internal standpoint, there are gains to be made for the Panthers. Its an opportunity for those guys to do some bonding, Rivera said. Hopefully, it will be a good opportunity for our guys. This will be only the sixth meeting between the Panthers and Raiders, and the first in Oakland since 2008. The Panthers won the 2012 meeting to forge a 3-2 series lead. Clearance Shoes UK Store . Leave your comments below or tweet us @SkySportsFL to have your say... Conor McAleny (Wigan - on loan from Everton) Conor McAleny is on loan with Wigan from Everton After joining Wigan on loan from Everton at the start of February, the 23-year-old has not taken long to make an impact. He netted on his debut in a 2-0 win at Sheffield United and then struck a brilliant long-range effort to set Wigan on their way to victory at Walsall.I was a bit shocked myself when I saw it go in. To be honest, I thought it was going over, said McAleny. But it dipped at the last minute and its one of the best Ive scored in a while. I have hit a few like that, and hopefully I can keep on doing it. Scoring any goal is nice, but when theyre like that, its always something a bit better.Sergi Canos (Brentford - on loan from Liverpool) Brentfords Sergi Canos scored against Wolves Brentford might have been on the slide in the Championship over the last month, but Liverpool youngster Canos has continued to impress. He was particularly influential in the 3-0 win over Wolves, scoring a goal and then setting up another for John Swift. Brentford boss Dean Smith thinks he can be a future Premier League star.Hes got to become more consistent and work on that side of his game, but in terms of where he can go, his performances have been very good, said Smith.Sergi trains really hard. He wants to get better and theres a future Premier League star there, thats for sure.Yaya Sanogo (Charlton - on loan from Arsenal) Yaya Sanogo scored a hat-trick against Reading After a disappointing loan spell with Ajax in the first half of the season, Arsenal forward Sanogo was on the move again on Deadline Day as he joined Charlton. And it did not take him long to end his year-long wait for a competitive goal as he netted a hat-trick to help the Addicks come from 3-1 down to llevel at 3-3 against Reading.dddddddddddd Even though the Royals scored a late goal to snatch victory, Charlton boss Jose Riga was impressed with the 23-year-old.I knew the story of Sanogo and Im happy for him that he can show his value today, he said. Of course, you have to show you can do it for more than one game but Im happy.I saw immediately during the training sessions the quality he has. When you arrive from France early as he did, at 19 to 20, to a big team like Arsenal, its quite difficult. My discussion with him was he can come here and take what he can from this challenge. Gaston Ramirez (Middlesbrough - on loan from Southampton) Gaston Ramirez has joined Middlesbrough from Southampton The Uruguayan sealed a loan move to Middlesbrough in January after hardly featuring for Southampton in the first half of the season. He bagged his first goal and won a penalty in the 3-1 victory over Cardiff and Boro boss Aitor Karanka thinks he could use the loan spell as a stepping stone.Hes a hungry player, he said. You could think its a step back but for him, its a step forward because he wants to keep going and keep improving his career. Its good for me having a player like him come here and help us. Adam Armstrong (Coventry - on loan from Newcastle) Adam Armstrong has continued to impress for Coventry The goals have continued to flow for League Ones joint-top scorer as he took his tally for the season to 19 with a brace against Bury. The 19-year-old recently came up against former Newcastle forward Shola Ameobi, who believes he has a bright future at St James Park.If he keeps developing and keeps building, keeps putting in the work, then I think he can be a top player at Newcastle, said Ameobi, now at Fleetwood.Hes very driven, and you need to be if you want to make it at the top level in this game; you need to have that determination and hes got that in spades.Adams been one of Coventrys standout players this season, so hopefully he can build on that confidence, go back to Tyneside next season and get a place in the team, which I believe he is more than capable of doing.Hit the video at the top of this article to watch Februarys loan stars in action.
